Fast-food giant McDonald's Corp.'s 207 Colorado restaurants contribute $194.3 million to the state's economy, according to the company.
McDonald's locations in the state bring in nearly $400 million in annual revenue, and pay more than $33 million in employee benefits and $8.7 in payroll taxes a year.
The company employs 8,680 people in Colorado.
Those statistics come from a recently released economic impact study commissioned by McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) and conducted by Prof. Dennis Tootelian with the Center for Small Business at California State University at Sacramento. Tootelian used 2004 data for his study.
Other research results include:
McDonald's annually buys more than $9.2 million in buns from East Balt Bakery; nearly $2 million in flour from ConAgra Food Ingredients; and $500,000 in butter from Sinton Dairy Foods Co. Those vendors are based in Denver;
Colorado McDonald's restaurants spend nearly $42 per state resident each year;
The restaurant company pays $97.7 million in wages to Colorado workers each year;
Ronald McDonald House Charities has contributed $1.6 million to children's charities and programs in this state since 1995.
Based in the Chicago area, McDonald's operates more than 30,000 restaurants worldwide. More than 80 percent of those locations are owned by franchisees or licensees.
The company also owns the Boston Market restaurant chain of Golden and 90 percent of the Chipotle Mexican Grill chain, based in Denver.
For the quarter ended March 31, McDonald's reported a 42 percent jump in net income to $728 million because of higher operating margins and lower interest expenses.
Total revenue for the period rose 9 percent to $4.8 million, reflecting higher sales in the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
McDonald's recently had market capitalization of $37.8 billion.
